Take Hands Away From Takeaway
For a smooth takeaway, you should have the sensation that you are moving the clubhead away from the ball with the arms and shoulders, not the hands. Those who think of their hands at this critical stage often tighten their grip. This pushes the clubhead down, frequently causing it to catch in the grass behind the ball, closes the club-face and produces a wildly hooked shot. The added grip pressure also tightens the arms and shoulders, thus restricting the backswing.
